SARAJEVO, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) Council of Ministers (CoM) adopted the Draft Action Plan for Emergency Measures to cope with the migrant crisis here on Tuesday.
At a state-level session, it was agreed that the coordination team will coordinate all activities in order to deal with the migrant crisis in a "humane and dignified manner".
The Draft Action Plan encompasses five urgent measures aiming to "better border control, more effective fight against illegal migration, realization of readmission agreements, intensifying activities to prevent migrants' smuggling and strengthening of asylum center capacities,"a press release stated.
Regarding the cooperation with relevant institutions of neighboring states, members of CoM agreed on solving the issue of border permeability with Croatia in order to prevent illegal migrants'entry. The competent institutions in Serbia, Montenegro and the European Union will be asked to undertake activities related to resolving the migrant crisis in BiH.
Migrants have turned to BiH in recent months, trying to avoid more heavily guarded routes and borders in the Balkans and many migrants are sleeping in parks in the capital and other towns as they seek passage into western Europe.
Earlier this month, BiH Border Police said that country faced with the increased influx of migrants whose number exceeded 3,500 since the beginning of this year, three times more than the total number of registered migrants in 2017.
