HOUSTON, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A group of young musical enthusiasts presented a traditional Chinese music concert Sunday night in Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, displaying their hard work and passion through the true spirit of heritage.

In the second Heritage Concert presented by students of North America Youth Chinese Orchestra (NAYCO), more than 30 talented young performers played traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Wu Changlu, president of NAYCO, said that most NAYCO students are American born Chinese. Learning traditional Chinese musical instruments helps build a bridge with their cultural roots and preserve the precious heritage.

Xie Fei, Chinese consul for cultural affairs in Houston, said at the concert that Chinese music is a treasure of traditional Chinese culture and of great significance to the unique inheritance.

"If there is no inheritance, Chinese traditional culture will have no successors and will not be able to obtain cultural recognition from other countries in the world," he said.

Founded in 2012, NAYCO aspires to promote Chinese traditional music and culture, as well as cultural exchanges between the East and the West. It provides a platform for young musicians to showcase their talents.

NAYCO members inaugurated their Heritage Concert in May 2014.
