DHAKA, July 10 (Xinhua) -- A Bangladesh-India joint venture company will construct a railway linking the country's first under-construction Rooppur nuclear power plant with a nearest most railway junction.

The agreement was signed Tuesday between Bangladesh Railway and an Indo-Bangla joint-venture company to construct the 26.5-km railway.

Mojibur Rahman, general manager of Bangladesh Railway, and Suvash Chandra Hawlader, managing director of Standard Engineers Ltd, signed on behalf of the joint venture company -- Standard Engineers Ltd, Castle Construction Ltd of Bangladesh, and GTP Infra Project Ltd of India, the agreement of nearly 3 billion taka (35.42 million U.S. dollars).

In November last year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the main construction works of Bangladesh's first nuclear power plant in Pabna district, 216 km west of the capital Dhaka.

The maiden nuclear plant scheme is being implemented by the government's Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) under the Science and Technology Ministry, with financial, technical and technological supports given by Russia through its state-owned nuclear giant Rosatom.
