KABUL, April 18 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan counter-narcotics police have uncovered illicit drugs and arrested an alleged drug trafficker in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, the provincial police office said on Friday.

The contraband, which includes 206 pieces of intoxicating objects locally known as Tablet-K and other materials used in manufacturing heroin, was found during a recent operation, the police office said in a statement.

Further investigation was underway, the statement added.

The Afghan interim government, which has banned poppy cultivation, processing of drugs, and drug trafficking, has vowed to fight the menace until the once-poppy-growing country becomes a drug-free nation. ■
