KABUL, April 18 (Xinhua) -- A total of 199 Afghans who were imprisoned in Iran have been handed over to Afghan authorities in western Nimroz province, a statement of the Provincial Directorate for Information and Culture said Friday.
In the wake of the talks between Kabul and Tehran, Iran would hand over 484 Afghan prisoners to the Afghan interim government, and the first batch, which included 199 inmates, has already been returned to Afghanistan, the statement said, adding the repatriated inmates would spend the remaining of their jail sentences in their home country.
Afghanistan also handed over two Iranian detainees to Iranian officials Thursday, the statement further said. ■
