NAIROBI, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations (UN) 2019 Climate Summit, which will take place on Sept. 23, is expected to adopt concrete action plans to promote the global green agenda, a UN official said here on Friday.

World leaders, policymakers, business executives and campaigners who will attend the high-level meeting are expected to chart a new roadmap to help mankind leapfrog into a green and sustainable future, said Luis Alfonso de Alba, UN secretary-general's special envoy for the 2019 Climate Summit.

Preparations for the summit are in top gear and organizers have identified specific areas for discussions that are expected to boost global response to climate change, the official told Xinhua on a side event of the just concluded fourth session of UN Environment Assembly in Nairobi, Kenya.

"We look forward to a meeting that can agree on specific actions to be implemented immediately to boost emissions' reduction and climate mitigation," he said.

One of the key objectives of the summit will be to urge industrial powers to cut down on carbon emissions in line with international treaties, he said.

"We will also be focusing on transformative areas like renewable energy and nature-based solutions to climate change including forests, land and oceans," he said.

"The summit will pay attention to specific sectors that can boost emissions reduction like aviation, shipping and cement manufacturing," he said, adding that incentives to boost investments in green technologies will also be discussed at the summit.

More than 100 world leaders are expected to attend the high-level climate summit in New York.

The fourth session of UN Environment Assembly, under the theme "Innovative Solutions for Environmental challenges and Sustainable Consumption and Production," was held on March 11-15 in Nairobi, Kenya.
